The Enhanced Personal Health Care (EPHC) program has successfully transformed primary care practices through a collaborative approach between Anthem’s affiliated health plans and participating providers. Early results and learnings from EPHC can help foster the adoption and acceleration of other value-based payment (VBP) initiatives.
EPHC is a leading VBP program which has been shown to deliver higher quality, more affordable care. As of March 2016, EPHC’s partnerships with 54,000 providers are reaching more than 4.6 million patients, resulting in savings of 3.3 percent, improving quality and preventive services use, and enhancing patients’ care experience.
Early findings indicate that providers are at varying levels of readiness for VBP models, but health plans can offer partnership and support through the provision of tools, financial and human resources, expertise, and actionable data that support providers’ efforts to transform their delivery of care.
